Lagosinor 14-HYDROXYFILIPIN isapentaeneantifungalantibioticproducedbyStreptomyces.Itwasfirstisolatedin1958byresearchersatMITintheUSA.Lagosinexhibitsbroadspectrumantifungalandantitumoractivityand,likefilipin,actsviainteractionwithcellmembranesterols.Structurally,lagosinis14-hydroxyfilipinIIIandthemostpolarmemberofthefilipinfamilyoffungicides.
Inarecentstudy 14-HYDROXYFILIPINwasusedtoevaluateitsefficacyoncandidaalbicansbiofilmformation.Theresultsrevealedthat 14-HYDROXYFILIPIN hasaninhibitoryeffectontheformationofC.albicansbiofilminadose-dependentmannerwithaminimuminhibitoryconcentration(MIC)of10 µg/mL.Italsoshowedthat 14-HYDROXYFILIPIN couldalsoinducetheapoptosisofC.albicanscellsinadose-dependentmanner.
