RNaseshaveimportantrolesinRNAdegradationandturnoverinallorganisms. RibonucleaseenzymecanunwindtheRNAhelixbycomplexingwithsingle-strandedRNA.RNaseAisanendoribonucleasewithfunctionsinRNAmetabolismandregulationofgeneexpression. Itwasfoundtoplayrolesindiseasessuchasautoimmunediseases,renalinsufficienciesandpancreasdisorder. Morerecently,anantitumoractivitywasalsoreportedforanRNaseAwithcytotoxicandcytostaticproperties. ThemembersofRNaseAsuperfamilyarewidelyexpressedandpresentinserumandtissuesofmammals. Theribonucleolyticactivityinthepancreasofruminantsisparticularlyhigh,perhapstodigestthelargeamountofRNAproducedbystomachmicroorganisms.
Applications:
TheenzymecanbeusedtohydrolyzeRNAfromproteinsamples.ItiscompatIBLeforuseinRNaseprotectionassays,toremoveunspecificallyboundRNA,intheanalysisofRNAsequences,tohydrolyzeRNAcontainedinproteinsamples,andinthepurificationofDNA.
